New T-shirts, part 3

One of my favorite things about last years Smoke Out was the Mini bike races.

so many good wipe outs!

So many cool mini bikes. Talk about a de-rake job!

Ridin' two up into the sun set.

But my favorite mini bike guy from the rally was this fellow.

When I got back to Detroit, this particular picture stuck with me. I kept going back to it, wanting to use it for something. It didn't take long before I found myself in the garage "Slangin' paint" as GTP would say...

When I finished the painting, it went into issue #101.

One day I got an e-mail from the wife of the dude I had just painted. She said she saw the painting of her husband in the mag, his birthday was coming up, and she thought it would make a great present. I said "that sounds great to me,"we struck a deal, and the painting was in the mail the next day.

But i've always really liked this painting, and recently i've been thinking of exactly why that is...

Something about participating in a costumed mini bike races while simultaneously attending a garage built chopper rally seems at first quite contradictory, but when viewed from a different angle, it all starts to make sense.

I mean, here are a bunch of guys who build and ride some of the meanest looking machines on the streets, yet (some of them) are still willing to get dressed up in silly costumes and rip around a parking lot on kids bikes in front of hundreds of people. It might sound silly, but I really respect that. There's something inherently "cool" about being able to forgo your outlaw biker ego for just one moment to cut loose and have some fun with it all.

After thinking about it some more, I started messing around with the image till I got what i thought was a pretty cool graphic...

I know it doesn't have any flames or skulls or bald eagles on it, but then again maybe thats the point...

I'm putting this out there to gauge your guy's reaction. If you like it, speak up. If you don't, tell me why. After all, i'm printing these shirts for you guys...

Thoughts?
